Pet fashion is quiet popular these days with dogs and cats sporting the latest hats, coats, shoes and even jewellery. Some lucky pets have closets full of outfits for all occasions, from swimwear to formal wear (and everything in between) while others get to show off the newest hairstyles.
A lot of these pets look adorable and most of them actually enjoy the attention but there are some pets that wear these items for safety and health reasons.
If you have ever seen a dog wearing zinc on its nose this is because the pigmentation is quite light and they need to protect themself from the sun (so that they don’t get burnt/skin cancer).
Some older dogs have trouble with their paws dragging on the ground and this can make them very sore so they wear little boots that help to keep their feet safe.
Just like bike riders wearing reflective clothing some dogs wear a reflective jacket or harness when going for a walk with their owners. This way they can be seen by people and cars when it is dark or overcast.
Raincoats when its raining or warm coats when it is cool can also help a dog, especially if they don’t have much fur or are young/old.
There are a few pets that need to wear shirts or coats to protect their skin from the elements due to allergies and other pets that wear a special shirt called a ‘storm coat’ if they are scared of storms. This shirt works with certain pressure points to calm them down.
If you have a cat that has long claws and doesn’t let you clip them you can actually get ‘tips’ that can be glued on to their claws so that they do not hurt you or damage the furniture. These are usually made of vinyl and range in colour.
